Sacramento Cooperative Community Fund (SCCF)Background"Give where you live" is the purpose of a nation-wide effort of food co-ops to build local "cooperative community funds"-endowment funds from which the interest earnings are donated back to local organizations. This effort reflects the Seventh Cooperative Principle - Concern for Community - which states that cooperatives work for the sustainable development of their communities through policies approved by their members. Many food co-ops across the U.S. have started such funds, and here in Sacramento, the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op, in conjunction with the Twin Pines Cooperative Foundation (based in Davis and coordinating the nationwide effort), established the SCCF in 2001. GrantsThe SCCF now has an annual spring process for making "micro-grants" (typically $200-$500) to local not-for-profit and cooperative organizations for eligible projects which fit at least one of the categories in the SNFC Community Sharing Policy (i.e., promoting nutrition or health, supporting a healthy environment, meeting basic human needs-particularly nutrition, or promoting the cooperative movement).
Since 2005 we've awarded over $10,700 for projects in the Sacramento region (see list of SCCF Awards below). If you are interested in applying for a micro-grant, please review the general eligibility criteria and then watch for the next Request for Proposals (RFP) and application (available approximately March 1 each spring) to obtain the specific instructions. CONTRIBUTIONS You can also help grow the SCCF with your tax-deductible donation. A larger fund “corpus” (balance) will provide a steadier stream of interest for annual grants. You can contribute to the SCCF at the SNFC's checkout stands when you shop, or by sending a check made out to the Sacramento Co-op Community Fund/TPCF, c/o Twin Pines Cooperative Foundation, 216 F Street, #1844, Davis, CA 95616, or by PayPal on-line at http://community.coop/ccf/.More InformationIf you have further questions about applying for grants, donating to the fund, or participating on the SCCF Committee, please leave a message for the SCCF Committee at (916) 868-6348 and we'll get back to you as soon as possible. Donation RequestsThe Co-op, along with so many of our staff and Co-op owners, supports the good work of numerous charitable organizations in the communities we serve. Each month, the Co-op makes donations (food and/or non-food product, event sponsorship, advertising, etc.) to help these groups with their worthy endeavors. In order for us to consider a donation request, the recipient organization must fall within certain guidelines. For specific guidelines, see our Community Sharing policy. To request a donation from the Co-op or to request our presence at an upcoming event, please fill out the following forms. Please note that we are currently only accepting and considering donation requests for October – December 2010. At this time we are only accepting and considering event participation requests for October – December 2010. A minimum of a 60-90 days lead time is appreciated for all requests. We thank you for your understanding.
